5 Benefits of Laughter for Authors
Did you know that May 5th is World Laughter Day? To celebrate, we thought we’d share 5 benefits of laughter for authors.
1. Laughter could help you get into that great headspace for writing. Physiologically, laughter triggers the release of endorphins, our body's natural feel-good chemicals, promoting a sense of well-being. It could also alleviate that sore shoulder from being hunched over your computer, since it also promotes pain relief.
2. You might not miss as many days of writing due to common illnesses. Laughter boosts the immune system by reducing stress hormones and increasing immune cells and infection-fighting antibodies, thus fortifying our resilience against illnesses.
3. You could be less stressed during those heavy editing months. Laughter serves as a natural stress-reliever, alleviating tension, lowering blood pressure, and fostering relaxation.
4. It could impact your ability to write characters. Emotionally, laughter fosters connections and strengthens bonds, promoting social cohesion and empathy among individuals, which could impact your ability to express those bonds and empathy when writing.
5. You might blow your deadlines out of the water. Laughing enhances cognitive functions, improving creativity, problem-solving skills, and overall mental agility.
While laughter helps us all, for authors and other creatives, we might actually be able to call it work. Happy laughing!
